The Norfolk Broads by Norfolk Holiday Guide

The Norfolk Broads is an area consisting of many rivers and lakes situated close to the East coast of the county. In conjunction with the neighbouring Suffolk Broads it is the largest protected wetland and third largest inland waterway in Britain. Its status is equivalent to that of a national park, although it has not been designated as oneyet. The Broads Authority, set up in 1989, is responsible for conservation, planning, recreation and waterways.

The Broads, as it is commonly referred to, has an area of 303 square kilometers (for those who, like me, are struggling to come to terms with metrication that is 117 square miles). In its entirety it is made up of seven rivers, namely the Ant, Thurne, Bure, Chet, Yare, Waveney and Wensum, together with sixty three broads. Of these broads only thirteen are for the most part navigable, with three more having only channels which can be navigated. The total navigable waterways amount to 200 kilometers (125 miles) and provide some spectacular night-time scenery.

Intensive peat digging during medieval times is believed to have culminated in the creation of the broads. The result is an area which has, quite fittingly, been described as Britains Magical Waterland. It is home to a diverse range of plants, insects, birds and animals, many of which are the rarest in the UK and some of which are unique to this area. Our most beautiful insect, the Swallowtail butterfly, has made its home here and the delightful British Otter is making a welcome comeback here thanks to the landscape and the water quality.

The Norfolk Broads can be explored along the numerous footpaths and cycle tracks running parallel to the rivers, with bicycle hire available around the county. However, the best way to take in the beautiful landscape and its wildlife is to rent a boat and cruise the waterways at your leisure or to take a guided boat tour. There are many businesses throughout the area offering tours or boats of all shapes and sizes for hire. You can live on board or there is plenty of accommodation available in close proximity to moorings if you want to hire boats by the day.

Grand Canyon Airplane Flights During the Labor Day Holiday

Labor Day will soon be here, and that means the opportunity for a summer airplane tour of the Grand Canyon is about over. Lots of people are taking their last vacations of the summer, so the tours will fill up fast.

Airplane Tours Departing From Vegas

Heading from Vegas, travelers can take air tours that go to either the West Rim or the South Rim of the canyon on a tour plane. It takes about a half hour to fly from Vegas to the West Rim and around an hour to fly to the South Rim. When you consider it can take almost six hours to drive to the South Rim, you save quite a bit of time.

There are two kinds of airplane tours. One is a landing tour and the other is an air-only tour. Both will fly you above Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and the Colorado River, before flying over the canyon. The tours that are marked air only will only take you in a loop over the canyon, while a landing tour will let you explore it.

If you need to watch your budget, then an air tour is ideal since it is the least expensive. However, you’ll see more if you do a landing tour. The airplane tour that lands at the West Rim is especially popular. It’s exciting because you can upgrade the tour to include a helicopter descent to the bottom of the canyon and a boat ride along the Colorado River that wends it’s way along the base of the towering rock walls.

Another landing tour option is to buy VIP passes to the famous Skywalk. The Skywalk is a huge bridge made from glass panels that allows you to stroll beyond the edge of the rim for 70 feet. You can see the canyon floor an amazing 4000 feet underneath you. It’s scary and thrilling at the same time.

Touring The South Rim

The plane tour of the South Rim gives you about 45 minutes of flight time. The tour takes off from the Grand Canyon National Park Airport in Tusayan, Arizona. The plane takes you over the pristine wilderness area of the North Rim as well as the land that borders the eastern edge of the park. Then you’ll head back to the South Rim and have witnessed 75% of the park after all is said and done.

The airplanes used on these flights are designed to hold up to 19 people. Two FAA certified pilots are on each tour to offer you a safe and fun experience. You’ll be comfortable on the plane too. They include oversized windows, cabins, and wings that won’t obstruct the views. You can feel confident when you book your tour that you’ll have the best views possible from one of the airplanes.

Plane Tours Are More Affordable

Airplane tours follow the same paths that you take on a helicopter tour. The difference is they are cheaper and will accommodate more people, while flying at a higher altitude. If you’d rather fly with a smaller crowd, then you can take a similar tour on a chopper instead. However, you’ll pay about 50 percent more if you do.

Labor Day weekend is always one of the busiest times at the Grand Canyon. So, buy your tour as soon as you can, and you can buy it conveniently online. Don’t wait until the day you want to fly. After all, you might miss a seat and you’ll definitely pay more.

Conclusion

Now you should know what to expect if you want to take an airplane tour of the Grand Canyon over the Labor Day holiday. Choose the rim you want to see and buy your tour as soon as you can. Buy your tickets early and get them online for the best deal on a flight you’ll never forget.

Home Security Be Safe During The Holidays!

Dallas is one of the largest cities in the United States, which is why it is no surprise that the city’s huge population has fast growing crime rates. Plenty of home owners are considering home alarm systems to protect their valuable belongings and a lot more importantly their loved ones.

While doing Christmas shopping at the mall a few weeks ago, a lady in line told me that a couple of weeks earlier a man followed her home from the mall and threatened her in her driveway. She called the Dallas police and filed a police report, and thankfully nobody was hurt and nothing was stolen; but what truly troubled her is knowing that this individual was still out there.

It is really important to keep in mind that crime rate is on the rise as the holidays approach; don’t risk letting someone take your valuable belongings or put your family’s safety at risk by not properly securing your property.

Here are simply a few ways to show you how a home security system can help protect your family and home this holiday:

– Monitor your house while visiting friends and family out of town during the holiday seasons. This helps maintain peace of mind knowing that you’ll be notified immediately by the monitoring station if something goes wrong- excellent way to protect all the expensive Christmas presents.

– Protect your Christmas presents. You might have just bought a TV or an iPad as a holiday gift for somebody. Be sure not to put these big presents under the Christmas tree until Christmas Eve. Most importantly arm your alarm system when you are away.

– Arm and disarm your alarm system remotely from work, the mall, or anywhere you have your cell phone. Making it convenient to disarm the alarm for your house cleaner or sitter while you’re out.

– Get notifications when your family arrives home from school or work to know that they’re safe and sound. Monitoring the house until you’re home is a smart way to keep an eye on your little ones. Assign a specific user code for each person who uses the system. That way you know when they arrive at the house and when they leave the house.

– Create reminders to arm or disarm your system in case you forget. This is a very useful tool when you’re rushing out the door to all holiday celebrations and family gatherings.

Home owners of Dallas find it easier to be proactive in securing their homes rather than paying the consequences later when things go wrong. All it takes is one frightening situation to ruin the holidays. And that is why Dallas home security is our top priority.

As in any foreign country, it is wise to follow precautions for safety and security when on a safari in Kenya. When on a Kenya safari holiday there are a few things to remember, not to walk in the bush without your guide, not going too close to or feeding the animals and not swimming in rivers in case of crocs and hippos.

Here are some tips on how to keep safe on your Kenya safari holiday.

Money Tips

Kenya holiday makers should try to carry only a little cash with them make sure youre not an easy target for thieves. Only authorized dealers and banks are allowed to change currency. It is worth changing money at the banks or bureaus on arrival at international airports or in the major towns, where the rate of exchange is more favourable than those offered at lodges and hotels.

Security Precautions

It is important to have a record of your passport number, airline tickets and travellers cheques when you go on a safari in Kenya, and to ensure that these items are kept in a safe place separate from the originals. Make use of your hotel safety deposit box for valuable items. Avoid transactions with by-standers unless accompanied by your tour driver/guide. Beach traders can be a nuisance but they will leave you alone as soon as you firmly but politely decline any trade with them.

Medical Precautions

Malaria is endemic to much of East Africa, consult a doctor or health department for the latest anti-malaria precautions well in advance of your Kenya safari holiday, as well as finding out about any other recently recommended jabs or tablets.

Bring plenty of mosquito repellent and wear trousers, socks and perhaps long sleeves in the evenings to avoid being bitten. Most rooms, even tents, have mosquito nets or mosquito proofing and are sprayed by hotel staff before night falls. Beware of sunburn even at high altitudes where the air feels cool. Bring plenty of sun creams, hats and suitable clothing on your Kenya safari holiday.

Food & Drink in Kenya

Bottled mineral water is readily available all over Kenya and it is generally recommended that Kenya holiday makers steer clear of water other than this. There are no restrictions on the sale or consumption of alcohol in Kenya and you will find a good selection of local beers and soft drinks available, as well as imported wines, beers and spirits in many places, although these can be expensive. The quality and value of food in Kenya is generally very good. However, do eat sensibly, particularly in the first few days of your Kenya safari holiday.

Kenya Holiday Insurance

Medical insurance is strongly recommended. Nairobi has two first-rate hospitals with excellent emergency facilities. In addition to this, travel insurance covering loss of baggage, third party liability, cancellation and curtailment, etc. is also recommended for Kenya safari holidays.
